Volunteers

Help us make a difference

We couldn’t succeed without our team of volunteers. And we’re always looking to welcome new people to join the team.

By volunteering, you can learn new skills, stay fit and healthy, meet interesting people, and be part of a large, happy team.

Being in the countryside with others has well established benefits both physical and mental for the wide range of people who volunteer with us, whether helping with practical conservation, education groups or in the woodyard.

You’ll also make a real difference, by helping us to look after the Wyre Forest.

Volunteer Programmes

One of the joys of volunteering for the Wyre Community Land Trust is that we’ve got an interesting and ever-changing range of activities on offer.

Conservation Volunteers
Our conservation volunteers help us carry out the important work needed to conserve the Wyre Forest, its wildflower meadows, and traditional orchards. Practical tasks vary depending on the time and can include:

  • Clearing scrub
  • Invasive species control
  • Coppicing
  • Hedge maintenance
  • Tree planting and pruning
  • Hay making
  • Fence construction and maintenance
  • Livestock movement
  • Apple harvesting

Our conservation volunteers meet every Tuesday and Thursday morning.

    Woodyard Volunteers
Set in a peaceful location in the Wyre Forest on the edge of Bewdley, we have a community workshop. Our volunteers work alongside our Woodyard Manager to create beautiful bespoke products from sustainably harvested oak from the Wyre Forest. Our woodworkers meet every Wednesday and work on projects such as:

    • Bird and bat boxes
    • Firewood and kindling
    • Green woodwork
    • Benches
    • Fences and gates

      About your fellow volunteers

We’re lucky enough to have around fifty regular volunteers, and are always eager to welcome more.

There’s no ‘typical’ sort of person on the team.

People of all ages and backgrounds take part – from young people seeking work experience, to working-people looking for something active and meaningful to do on days off, to older people wanting to keep fit and healthy.

Some people have specialist skills to contribute, which is great. Others just bring their enthusiasm and energy. Both are equally valued.

It’s a varied group of different ages and backgrounds. So, whoever you are, whatever your background, you’ll fit right in.

      What to expect

Activities are tailored to fit the interests, physical capabilities and skill-sets of each of the people on the team.

Whatever you end up doing, full training is given, constant supervision is on hand, qualified first aiders are omnipresent, and tools and protective wear are always provided.

All new volunteers are given a volunteer induction before starting. Get in touch with our team today to find out more.
