Wyre Community Land Trust

A Community Caring for Ruskinland and the Landscape around the Wyre Forest

The Wyre Forest and surrounding countryside is an environment with a variety of habitats, rich in wildlife and plant species.

Based in Ruskinland in the Wyre Forest our community of volunteers work with us to care for this special environment in a way which aims to reverse the nationwide loss of biodiversity.

Working in this lovely place and connecting with the natural environment provides real benefits both psychological and physical for our volunteers and visitors and we feel privileged to be able welcome many diverse groups to our education, craft and well-being sessions.

Our Story

We take our inspiration from the work of John Ruskin, the Victorian writer, art critic and conservationist.
Our home is at Ruskin Land, a piece of the Wyre Forest that was given to John Ruskin in the 1870s, and our landlord is the Guild of St George – a charity he set up to provide opportunities for working people to cultivate land and reconnect with nature.

Education

We offer free education and care farming visits to local school and community groups. Our education team are able to offer a wide range of activities, from nature art to den building.

Join Our Volunteers

We couldn’t succeed without our team of volunteers. And we’re always looking to welcome new people to join the team. You could learn new skills, make new friends, and help the Wyre Forest work better.

Buy our food & wood products

With our own woodland, sawmill and woodyard, we offer high-quality, locally-produced timber and a growing range of wood products. We’re also a great source of well-seasoned Ready to Burn Firewood.

Come on a Course

We run a busy programme and courses and events, so you can try your hand at specialist skills, find out more about local landscapes, and listen to inspiring stories.

Conservation Grazing

One of the ways we manage the landscape is with our pedigree herd of Dexter cattle. So, we also have a steady supply of slow-grown, flavoursome beef, with its distinctive grass-fed marbling.
